Ground Stakes for Fences and Gardens
Our standard ground stakes are versatile gardening tools also useful for staking down fencing. Far better than the little “stakes” shaped like croquet wickets that gardeners often use, these are foot-long metal stakes with a pointed end for easy ground penetration, a kink in the middle to help them stay in place, and a hook at the end to grab whatever needs holding down.
For those installing their fences on sandy or otherwise loose soil, we also provide 18-inch ground stakes made of rebar. Like the 12-inch stakes, these longer stakes have a hook at the end to hold the fencing.
Since deer want to go under a tall fence rather than over it, they frequently explore the bottom of the fencing trying to find places where they can pry it up. That makes it crucial to secure the fence bottom. A standard and very effective way to do this is to fold 6 inches of the fencing outward at the bottom (which means 7.5-foot fencing will produce a fence 7 feet tall) and then stake it down every 6 feet with one of our ground stakes. Those who wish to secure the bottom with a nylon line without any bottom fold should be aware that this makes their taller fence more vulnerable to penetration at the bottom.
Plan on folding 6 inches of your fencing outward at the bottom toward the deer and staking it down with ground stakes (one every six feet). Use standard 12-inch stakes for most purposes, or 18-inch rebar stakes if your soil is very loose.
